My old english teacher gave me a book after graduation. It was an old paperback; the corners were starting to peel upwards and the pages were brown at the edges. Inscribed in the front cover was this:
We did not come to remain whole.
We came to lose our leaves like the trees,
The trees that are broken
And start again, drawing up from great roots.
– Robert Bly
Those words conjure three images to my mind; a green shoot springing from the blackened and charred trunk of a gum tree, a golden rivet running through a cracked porcelain plate, and a pale scar on human skin.
I’m under the impression that my life to this point has been an experiment. And what is one of the most important foundations of a scientific experimentation? Documentation. That brings me to why you’re reading this in the first place. I invite you to read, dissect, enjoy or even hate what I write here, but most importantly I invite you to keep me company in this, my little trip down the rabbit hole.
I blog about literature, travel and everyday thoughts and musings. I also drop in creative works of fiction and non-fiction from time to time. Inspiration comes to me in the natural world, on long walks, and by reading. Enjoy. xx
Exquisite introduction – Honest, complex and fresh.
You are an amazing writer!
